Problems with passenger door

today, coming home I found a vacant parking spot on the fifth floor (I usually park the car on the third floor). Same place I parked the car 10 days ago when I couldn't open the door. It's kind of a niche (just one car can fit there) surounded by some electric panels. Around 6pm this evening I went to the car to get my wallet. guess what? when I unlocked the doors from the remote the passenger door opened too. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was afraid to lock the car. After a few minutes staring at the door, closed it, locked the car and unlock it. It works! Even the window doesn't act as before.
I have had 10-12 cars my whole life but never seen or ever heard anyone with such a problem. I have an app at Morristown on the 10th this month.
Should I go there and let them figure out what was the problem?

Someone mentioned humidity or cold. This might be the problem. This morning, I went to warm the car before walking to the gym. I used the passenger side door and started the car from the pasenger side.

One the way back from the gym I noticed that the passenger door was ajar. I don't think I closed it properly. I closed it properly and then I noticed I couldn't open it up again. It was REALLY cold this morning when I left it ajar. The weather could most possibly have affected the internal mechanism.

How long did the problem stay? I'm thinking of sitting in the car with th heat on to see if that changes anything...

I disconnected the battery for a couple of hours, connected back and I tried to unlock the car. I heard the beep/unlock sound but none of the doors opened. Tried a few more time to push the unlock button and finally the car unlocked but still the passenger door does nothing. Still hopping that it will unlock by itself. I am not using that door to much. Just afraid not to have a problem with the driver's door and be forced to climb from the back seat.

This happend to me this morning! My passenger door won't open from the inside or outside! The window won't go down either.

What did you discover was the problem?

Hi, I have no idea what is the problem. The so called "technicians" said it was the actuator. After they changed it I was recommended to change everything inside. Damage: $1840 (they are so incompetent that they have to change everything, this way they "might" fix it by mistake). After that I was told the harness is the problem and still the price is $1840. One of the technicians tried to explain me the amount of soldering that goes with the harness (the guy looked smart from a mile away). I told him that I don't want to change the wires for the whole car, just for the door. "Ohhhhh....then you have no idea how much would cost the whole car?". I bet it would no be less than $45k.
Anyway, I can open the door from outside. It cannot be locked (they broke the latch), not even manually pushing the lock pin. The alarm works though. Because I don't know what is the problem I bought the door with everything inside from a shop in CA. I will have plenty of time to school myself having the door in my apartment.

I read somewhere you went to a dealer in NJ. Why NJ? Why didn't you want to go to the dealer in Manhattan?

I could have chosen BMW in Greenwich. I honestly thought that if they are one of the sponsors here they won't try to rip me off (please stop laughing!). If you go thru posts here you see so often "Call Morristown BMW, they will take care of you!".

were temperatures different? humidity drastically different?

i'm just guessing, but maybe your door lock mechanism is failing. but that's just a guess. it could be electrical as well. the dealer might be able to find something in the diagnostics but maybe not.

you could just leave it and hope for the best or start replacing things. i replaced my door lock mechanism myself. it cost about US$150 and it took me a couple of hours, maybe 3.

I ended up changing the actuator but I'm still not able to unlock the door from the remote or from the main switch. It doesn't bother me too much because my wife and my two little girls are always using the back seat. The other thing that doesn't work is the mirror. The window can be opened just from the passenger switch. Other than that the engine is running which is the most important thing so far.

Hi guys: writting from Bolivia, South America. I have the exact same problem. My technictian was able to unplug the electronic door system, so now I can open my door manually as well as to lock and unlock manually. Major problem is that window opens and closes sometimes. It´s very annoing. Does anybody found the solution? probably is an electronic module failure under the glove box? appreciate your reply.

My mechanic said is the harness inside the door that has to be replaced and asked me $1600. For that kind of money I prefer to open the door manually.
