Red face Windshield wiper control

May be a repeat of one I submitted earlier....either way, still haven't found the answer. (not to say I haven't gotten some good feedback though)..My wife's 01 X-5's windshield wiper control unit doesn't seem to work in the middle location. That is to say, when we lift it up one level to engage the variable timing mechanism, it doesn't ever work. Some have said it is then placed under the electrical circuit of the rain sensor but no matter how hard the rain comes down, it doesn't work. Any idea how much and where you can get a replacement for this....I can't seem to find it or even a mention of it anywhere. I'm sure it'll cost a "first born son" and twice that much to install.....Oh well, all I know is that I've got to get it fixed....any help? thanx
