Blitzsafe adapter question..

Greetings:

This has been bugging me a bit.

I have successfully used a Blitzsafe adapter so I could keep the CD Changer in the trunk and add XM Radio in my wife's 04 325 Ci Vert.

While I am definitely NOT an electrical engineer, I have tried to understand the wiring on my 06 X5 (with Nav no DSP), and cannot for the life of me understand why it would not work on my SAV.

Since I have NAV, I have the darn cassette player behind it, and most of the integration solutions for adding XM (through AUX) and/or Ipod, I have to elimate the CD Changer. So not looking for suggestions...just why it doesnt work.

Can someone explain to me in lay terms what is different between the 2 vehicles wiring that would cause it not to work in the X5?

Thanks and Happy New Year to all..

Ed

sorry, off topic, but why does the NAV come with a tape player? even in an 06? I don't understand it. don't mean to hijack your thread.

The blitzsafe is for "all BMW" or just for the 3 series? I haven't seen the pics of the blitzsafe, but does everything plug in? all the wiring is same as your 3 series, just don't get any audio?

I agree. I think it was dumb that BMW put a cassette player behind the nav screen in the US. In Europe, they get a CD player that doesnt fit in the US model.

The Blitzsafe has worked in 2 3s and a 5 without any problem.

I just tried to install a BSW XM kit in my '04, and it didn't work. The mistake was mine. When I ordered it, I didn't look at ALL the footnotes, one of which said it won't work with Nav. When I talked to BSW, they said there's something about the Nav itself which doesn't allow XM to work properly. And it was configured to use the Blitz as the interface.

So I had to send it back and exchange for Sirius unfortunately. I just hate to give any of my money to a company paying obscene money to Howard Stern. But the guys at BSW were fantastic to work with.

OK - I see. well lucky for me the sirius i bought online still has subscription, so I don't have to pay for sirius yet (i'm hoping it's a lifetime subscript, or maybe bmw test that they'll never disconnect) LOL

Sounds like an opportunity for someone to make the XM unit work with NAV, did BSW say they were working on it?

BSW made it sound like they weren't pursuing it. I wish they would since I have more than a year left on the 3 year subscription on XM. Guess I'll throw that in the 528i.

BTW- when you buy the BMW Sirius package, it comes with a 1 year subscription. so BSW is offering the same thing.

The problem is with your Navigation, it handles Sirius much differently than a Business CD unit would. XM Direct is compatible with Business CD, just not Navigation.
