20mpg and you're complaining? My 3.0 is only averaging 16mpg doing 60/40 surface street/Freeway driving.

+1, I'd be quite ecstatic with near 20 mpg in any petrol fueled X.

i have 15 city, and 21 highway. After installing Afe on my 4.4i, i get 23 on hwy now, i haven't checked city though....and of course, depends on how you step on the gas.

20mpg is pretty darn good for a 6 cyl moving 5000+lbs - normally the 4.4 gets better mileage than a 3.0 - given your stated driving habits, it sounds like you have a rare car where everything works better than designed
it does happen - I heard Rolls-Royce had been trying to buy back one of its jet engines because it had not showed any wear during servicing and was generating beyond peak power - they wanted to tear it apart and find out what they did right

Maybe having the sport model ,you get less gas mileage with the bigger tires.I have the non sport with 17" wheels. All highway driving I get 25,combined in town and driving back and forth to school,25 miles each way,I get 19 - 20.

I get 23.5 on the freeway, and 19-20 in town. I have AFE cold air in-take. If your mpg is dropping, change your plugs. I did last week and what a difference.

I'm not sure considering my X5 4.4 wouldn't have got that if it was falling off a cliff with the engine off
![]() Mine averaged 17.9mpg all highway which was very good. Even BMW specs don't have them higher then 19mpg.
