I've seen a real BMW-Alpina X5! No, really! Well, 2 of them, in the back of the Alpina factory lot at Buchloe in late 2005 - both prototypes, as they sadly never built a production version of either the E53 or E70. I think we've covered the 4.6 M62 engine being an Alpina design (essentially) and the 4.8 N62 being pure BMW. The E70 Alpina was going to get the H1 engine from the B5/6/7 - 4.4l supercharged N62 with 500+PS, or more likely the newer 530PS version. I even went as far as discussing buying the first customer car with the head of sales - I was picking up the first customer B5 Touring at the time. The lovely irony of the car which is the subject of this particular thread is that none of the added items appear to be even genuine Alpina stuff - i.e. no Alpina wheels, fake Alpina badges, etc. I think I'll stick to just a really nice standard spec 4.8is, thanks, preferably in Le Mans blue... |

I agree that X5 is kick ass. Talk about a lot of rubber on the road. (Get it ... 'sex on wheels'...'rubber on the road'..... 'sex' ...'rubber' ... oh never mind.) Titanium skid plate would definitely look perfect on it. You're almost there... just running boards and those rims. Hey btw, is your interior titanium trim or graphite metallic? What's the source of the photo of the silver car, though? With the "OAL" prototype, it looks like it must be Alpina's demonstrator, presumably just for the wheels. If you hunt around the net long enough, you can find ancient spy pics of the E53 Alpina prototype, and I think there were photos of the E53/E70 hack(s) somewhere on the m5board once upon a time. Am closing in on an X5 4.8is, myself... P.S. seen the new style of Alpina wheels on the B7 Bi-Turbo at Geneva? |

I was just joking. Yeah that woofer job is a crack up.
The "OAL" is just as you describe, a demonstrator for their rims. It's from their web site. If you can find those prototype pics, post them! Yeah, I agree on your 4.8is desire... |
