All true, the OEM's seem to be the only truly functional RB's on the market. The group buy version are primarily cosmetic and IMHO the X5's scream for these as they tie the truck together and visually lower the vehicle. They are a nice accent between the wheels.
Yes, the OEM's are more functional but from a side view they protrude beyond the sides of the car and have rumored to rub /catch against pant legs/curbs/etc. I don't have children and even then the X5 is not a very high SUV that would require running boards. buts thats only my opinion
