Sounds like the same problem I had...

Long story short, it was the Nav computer that needed replacing. Since I'm in the LA area, I took it to FAST TRACK (Santa Monica area) who at the time had a repair/rebuilt nav computer exchange program for only a fraction of the cost of a new one. I've had no problem since.
Anyway, if Tom from EAS can't help you, you could try the Fast Track folks as well. Good luck!

I took it into the BMW service center and they indicated it would cost $3,600 to fix (which is probably about 1/5th of what the car is worth). I tried a number of alternatives, including purchasing the BMW GPS NAVIGATION MONITOR SCREEN online via ebay. I then to the car to two after-market sound/nav specialists to troubleshoot it and they have come to the conclusion that it is my Nav DRIVE is the problem.
I'm being told that the Navigation DVD drive costs over $2,000 from the dealer. I have no idea if that is really the problem or it could be something else, and/or if there is another way to address the problem. Also, if there is a reliable on-line vendor that could sell me the Nav Drive. I cannot understand how a DVD drive costs more than a few hundred bucks at the most.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to call me directy at 818-266-7675 if you have a more expedient, more cost-effective solution. I'm located in Los Angeles, CA
