Requesting electronic modification advice

Hi. I am the original owner of a 2001 X5 4.4 (Feb 01 build) and only just found this website. I would like to add a few electronic upgrades. It seems that options depend on the vehicle builld date and exisiting amenities. I need guidance on what is possible for my car and the most efficient way to accomplish the upgrade.

I would like to add NAV, IPOD input and integrated or bluetooth phone.

I need to buy a new cell phone anyway so phone model is not a limiting factor. I ordered the car with premium sound (I think it is called DSP) with an in-dash radio and cassette player and Nakamichi glovebox CD changer. I would like to keep the CD changer connected. I could get rid of the cassette.

All your desires are possible. It's covered extensively here in forum. You can purchase the bmw factory NAV and have it installed - that can run you $2700, then a DICE ipod integration kit - $150 (more with DSP i think), then bluetooth, i've seen it as high as $900 i think.

I was considering all this as well - So i did some of my own research - you can get a double DIN in dash NAV unit that you can connect a bluetooth, and ipod features too - and connect the unit to steering wheel for controls. the pioneer avic-d3 or avic-z2. take a look at ebay, I've seen an avic d3 package for $700 (bluetooth and ipod included). if you can get more info on how the bluetooth works and how ipod works (is it just an aux input i.e. no display/controls for ipod on radio). The avic z2 is a little more expensive, but is newer i think. i personally went DICE and Sirius - decided to get a bluetooth headset and wife's company gave her a Garmin...

Thanks for the input. I will look at the Pioneer.

I should have mentioned that I have searched X5world and all of the posts are compartmentalized on a single option not anything that really integrates the three. Unfortunately, the DICE won't work for me since it replaces the CD changer connection in the car.

The posts regarding the phone by UCrewX5(2004) and Janix(2006) were helpful. But both only address adding a phone to an existing NAV unit. I was wondering if there was a NAV unit that offers a higher functionality with the phone/aux connection since I will be buying it new.
