2001 X5 brake light problem

great new all is working , i change the light bulb holders know all is working,the cost for the do-it herself job was $50..for the new bulb holder $30, soldering gun $20...and time it took me a few more hour, but that was because i didn't now what the hell i was doing, but its a very easy job.. i did not put any pictures because all you need are the info from CharlieHustleX5.. thank you, very much for all who help me out and special thanks to CharlieHustleX5 could not have done it without your help.....

When your X5 does this with the brake lights, does the center light turn on?

My 2001 4.4i can not light up any of the brake lights. The contacts look good on the bulbs which are all new.
In the past, even when the lights fail, I would still have the center light.

The fuses are good. (fuse nine and two right? are there more?)

Wifey needs her tank back, and im running out of ideas.

HI all,
I have a 2001 3.0l x5 and i had issues w/ my DS (and PS) rear light not working (one that stay on) last winter. I got a couple of new bulb holders and bulbs but still was not working. Then i took the bulb holder out and cleaned the surface were the bulb holder screws onto the tail light housing unit to make the connection. It worked but kept going on and off when i drove around. I took the bulb holder off and sprayed some contact cleaner (buy at radioshack and etc) on the plate were the bulb holded make the connection (bulb to turn on) and it worked. In the late spring the same bulb would not work so i sprayed contact cleaner again and have not had a issues seen. The housing unit plate were the bulb holder connects gets corroded easy.

Try contact cleaner.

Yessir I did that as well.
The problem is that I have NO brake lights at all.
None.
Just wondering if anybody else has had absolutely no rear lights on, and what they may have done to correct that.

HI,
Did you check the fuse for the brake lights? i think fuse 2 and 9 run the light modules.

The fuses are good.

I checked them right after finding that all of the bulbs were good and the contacts are clean.

Is the brake light switch in the pedal a common failure? I'm running out of solutions here.

I have not checked on the bimmers but my land rovers had a brake light switch behind the brake pedal. They would go out time to time causing the brake lights not to work... I dont have my workshop manual handy at this time so i can not check this info out.

It was always common issue on the land rover from the early '90 up.... BMW owned Land Rover from the late '90 to mid 2000's...
