Cup Holder - any new updates?

Well, all the spring tabs on the front cup holder is pushed back.
Someone mentioned BMW may have an alternative fix for this (without replacing the whole assembly)
Anyone done this? Anyone have part numbers?

Thanks a bunch

Franklin

When I got my X it had a few of the tabs missing. My X is still under warranty so I had BMW replace them. They have new tabs that don't require the console to be taken apart. It looks to me that the tabs are taped\glued on.

There is a "frame" around the bottom of the tab that sticks to your cup holder. Since I still have some original tabs the effect is that some of my tabs are flushed while the new ones are not. The frame is only about 1 or 2 mm thick but that is a lot of space when the cup holder is kinda small to begin with!

I am at work right now. When I get home I'll take a picture of the new tabs and I'll see if I can find the part numbers on my receipt.

Here is a picture of both an original clip and a replacement one. You can see from the picture how the replacement clip's frame extends into the holder area leaving a little less room for your cup.

My BMW receipt says Clamping Parts Set, 51-16-9-111-091. For the quantity they have 1. It is unclear to me how many clips come in the set. They replaced 4 clips in my X. If the set came with 6 I wish they would have given me the other two.

If you go out to pelicanparts.com and enter this part number, the website returns a price of $18.90. It would seem reasonable that this price is for a set of 6 and not for each one!

Does the new replacement clips operate/function (retract) as the original?

It's not as smooth as the original and not the same exact size...

I too wish the damn dealership would have just replaced all of them instead of just leaving two old ones...

Dude - it looks like you have a gerbil living in your cup holder, or your coffee cup has a sand paper cover. It sure gets a lot of use, eh?

They work exactly the same as the original ones.
