That looks great! I actually done the E46 SMG shifter a few years ago on my first 4.6is, I also adapted the shift pattern so it worked in conjunction with the actual shift of the car. I was thinking of going with the the M5 one this time round and doing the same as you, but I'm also planing on adapting the shift pattern on the M5 one also.

Not a geat pic but I'll see if I have another, you can see the shift pattern on the knob is the same as that on the base of the gear surround.

It's 25162282750

Tischer (getbmwparts.com) has it for just shy of $200.

Let me know if you pick one up.

but i want more because the M5 smg knob light up which is M3 smg knob
does not light up.
as the M5 knob does not have the P=park like x5 so the when i putted into PARK it NO light the rest of lights are work normal N=nuetral light up D=drive light up

car in park.

car in reverse.

in Neutral

in drive.

in sport mode with no light because the M5 knob have only one mode for light so i hook up to drive mode only (and x5 have two light mode for D and SD)

you right about the safety switch on the knob the SMG doesnt have it,
but you can not go from P to D without pressing the brake
or from D to P while the car is in motion so no need to worries about the safety switch.

all those buttons ...there is only one will need ( power) if you have the paddles shifter like mine.
and dont like to move the shifter to the left all you need is press the power button and shift it from the padlles
otherwise no need to install any buttons at all.
