corima is on a distinguished road
sorry if this is long. But, airlevel just plain sux.

About a month ago, I had a slight knocking sound from the front left. Got under car to see if anything was loose. Noticed that both front outside CV boots were very cracked and leaking. Called a number of dealers in the area. The closest being about a 3 hour round trip. No CPO coverage for this. So, having done this many times in other cars, and not trusting any local "muffler shop" to do it, I set about taking care of this. CV joints still in great shape, so just cleaned and repacked new grease and new inside and outside boots. Job well done. So, back to trying to figure out the knocking sound. Still cant find anything, sound getting louder. Now notice the front left now riding lower than the other side. Handling now isnt right. After a couple of days of this, driving myself crazy with it. The dreaded "selflevel inactive" light now comes on, and doesnt go away.

Ok, now its time to do the trip to the Stealer. Cancel a good number of patients to do this. Now they are ticked at me. Cant blame them. BMW service "Tech" tell me that the sensor was installed incorrectly when the axles were replaced. Ok, I tell them the axles were not replaced. Original part stickers still on them. Only the boots were replaced. And, BTW, the sensor was never touched. If it was installed incorrectly it was done at the dealer where I purchased the thing. After lots of discussion, still dont get a descent explanation on why the sensor is incorrectly installed, when I never touched it. So, ok. Giving the benefit of doubt, and burning daylight, I told them to do what they have to do, I will pay for it. Dinged 500 bucks later for just readjusting the ride height sensors, and reprograming computer, sensors in good shape. Since its in, also get level II service along with some door ding removal. Total 1600 bucks.

After ten days same knocking noise is coming back, and getting louder. Ride height now lower on the left front again, handling poorly again. But now, no dreaded "selflevel inactive" light for now anyway.

Ticked that nobody believed me that I never touched the sensor, ticked that I spent 500 bucks for them to readjust the sensors, and I am in the same place I was before. Also ticked that after two days, my Email to the general manager at H------k BMW has not gotten back to me on this. My wife's GERMAN made 330ci with 90k on it has never given us problem one. As fun as the 4.8is is to drive when its right, I dont think this is over come by the problems.
