Engine sound on 4.4

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I dont have another 4.4 near me to compare...

Right now I have 01 330ci coupe, which is 3.0 and the engine at idle sound allot silent than in 4.4 03 X5 Is that normal?

I always thought that 4.4 have almost dad silent engines at idle.

Can someone give me some imput on this? Thanks.

Philly how far are you from Warminster? I'll turn mine on for you so you could hear it live.

Actually not really far. I am in Huntingdon Valley (North East Philly) 19006

Appreciate your offer. I had that x5 (that I am about to purchase) for a test drive and I really liked it. Its in like new condition, all service records up to date but the engine noise at idle and at slow acceleration sounded strange (not sure how to describe it) not really smooth - with a slight knock but I don’t think it lifters. I forgot to check the oil level before I gave it. Maybe it was a little low on oil...

Your idea is great. Maybe I will PM you and if you will have a moment this Saturday or Sunday we can get together somewhere near your place so I can compare... Thanks.

By the way, a V8, even a BMW V8 will never be as smooth, and therefore as quiet as a straight 6. Have an independent BMW mechanic check it out before you buy. Good luck with your purchase.
