Hi i noticed that in my friends 2005 x5 4.4 with dsp he can turn the stereo on with out putting the key in the ignition. I tried it on mine and nothing happens. Is there a way to make it work? Or was it in certain x5's?

All recent BMWs should be able to turn on the audio system without the ignition. Does your cigarette lighter work w/o the key? Because it should........

Yes my cigarette lighter works without the key but the stereo doesnt turn on with out the key.

Yea i dont understand why becasue my friend has the exact same x5 as mine with dsp and his works.

I can play my stereo (non-dsp) without the key on my 2004 X5.

Same here...my '04 non-dsp also works without the key. Not sure why some can and others can't. My user's manual also indicated that it should work for about 20minutes without key, then auto shut-off.
