When Americans stop having so much buying power. Given enough USD depreciation, continued increasing oil prices, and continued American reluctance to save, that will slowly occur.

I want BMW to be GERMAN again. Not an American car with a German badge. I don't care if the buttons are cryptic, the dash old-fashioned, or engine too loud. I also won't care if they go back to nickle-and-diming for power windows. Just please, BMW, go back to what you were. The '03 X5 4.4i sport.........good BMW, sharp V8 throttle response, brutish V8 exhaust note. That's a good bench mark for future SAVs.

I wish the engine was louder. They put so much sound deadening in the Z4, they had to bore a hole into the firewall and install a plastic tube to transfer a little of the engine's song to the cabin. This is the wrong order, in which to design a car.

I feel like we all bought our BMW's just barely in time..

Current herd; E53 X5, Z3 Coupe 3.0i, Z3 Roadster 3.0i.

I test drove an E70 3.0 diesel and it was definitely more powerful than my 02 E53 X5 3.0d euro. So many technical innovations in the new model that it sometimes scares me if I had an X5 like that.

I am still loyal to my X5 3.0d prefacelift model.

E53! But it really depends on what kind of driving you do. I don't need 3rd row seating or more space. My E53 has a larger fuel tank AND gets better mileage, so longer between fillups. I also love the better handling with the shorter wheelbase. AND I have an oil dipstick! (not just the one behind the steer wheel) So for ME, the E53 is almost ideal.

I've been in many E53s, and driven the E70 4.8i sport. I like the E53s more in practically every aspect. From the exhaust note, to the interior, to the "feel" of sitting in an E53. My opinion of the E70 is the same as every other new BMW of late.
Agree the most with this post - I did start liking the new E70s, I was thinking sometime next summer ('09) I'll decide if I want an 04,05 4.8 or a 3.0 2007. Or if i complete my MODs that i want this year maybe stay with my pre-facelifted e53 (4.6 kit and running boards - and some 20" rims).

IMO the 3.0 and 4.8 in the e70s do not have a distinct difference. I kind of liked the fact that you could look at an e53 and immediately know that it was a 4.6/4.8 (ok, unless u added the kit like some of us). correct me if i'm wrong.. but I don't see the difference. I guess i feel like the 4.8 is the M version and want some sort of seperation in look. I guess a 550 doesnt look much different than a 525 huh?

Probably get more thumbs up for the E53 here and converse on the E70 forum....my 2c worth FWIW

- Don't like the look of the E70, looks just like a beefed up X3 and I have hated the look of the X3 since it was first launched.
- Caters more to the 'Biff n Buffy' brigade and is less of a drivers car, as much as a 5,000lb SUV can be a drivers car
- The 3.0 that I had for a weekend loaner was very underpowered and I was very unimpressed overall (not a fair comparison I know compared with the 4.4)

I feel that BMW 'lost' something going from the E53 to the the E70 and am hoping that they get it back with thE X6.

If I don't like the X6 after driving it then I'll be changing from BMW when its time to pitch my X5 for my next SU(A)V. I'm sure they will be crushed

I have a 03 x5 3.0. What is the difference between the new face lift and the 01-03 versions?

The real comparison for me is;
My E53 + $50,000 in the bank
New E70
I'll take the money!
