Love the E70!
The ride/engine - just miss the fact that there is no manual tranny. Cheers,

Hate the E70!
I love the classic look of the E53. The E70 looks to much like the X3 from behind. Technology wise the E70 is probably a lot better. But IMO the E53 handles a lot better because of the shorter wheel base.
I just returned my leased 2006 4.4i and bought a Lemans Blue 2006 4.8is. The 4.8is should make a nice garage companion for my 2005 M3. Cheers

Hasn't the E53 v. E70 comparison been discussed already?
I've been in many E53s, and driven the E70 4.8i sport. I like the E53s more in practically every aspect. From the exhaust note, to the interior, to the "feel" of sitting in an E53. My opinion of the E70 is the same as every other new BMW of late. Now as to the looks, the E53 wins over the bloated, overweight, Americanised E70 in every way. Now, the facelift versus pre-facelift is more complex. I like the the facelift cuz it's a tad more modern, with the clearer headlamps. However, I really like the '00-'03 because it looks like a honest, traditional BMW, just like the pre-facelift E46 3-sedans before '02. |

I like some aspects of the rear of the E70 in the hatch area, but am only "accepting" of them. Still prefer the E53. The lower half of the E70's butt looks too X3 - like, which is to say.. the newer American-ish cheapy BMW look. Overall the E70 is too big and pudgy. I love the fact that my E53 is relatively small-ish and corners very well. I always love the looks on 3 series owners when they realize how flat and fast the X handles. I was just checking BMW's website to look at the 1 series. I went through every model. Frankly, they're all crappy American looking vehicles. Chris Bangle's design team absolutely screwed our company. The E70 is the ONLY BMW left that even remotely looks like a BMW. I love the idea of the 1 series and recapturing the 2002. Really though, the 2002 is based on the E9. Now that was a futuristic Jetsons Bauhaus car. I wish they'd made the 1 series much more like the a futurized futuristic E9. Instead the 1 series has the "2x4 lines" in the upper haunches, tiny ricer Bangle windows, and the Bangle low slung pregnant belly. So sad. The 2002 / E9 was all about the "green house" .. tons of glass. Oh.. and the 1 series is a bit piggy kids. Came out about 400 to 600 pounds too heavy. So.. when do we get our German car company back from the design retarded Americans?
