Thumbs down $200 Oil Change

Ok, I must be getting old and my perspectives are skewed. I need an oil change on the ole X5. I contacted my indy mechanic and he told me it would be $130. Thinking that was a bit high I contacted the BMW dealer here and was told an oil change is $212!! And yes that is the price for just the oil change without the cabin filter!!!

Let's see..
  • Oil should be 8.5 quarts at $6.50 a quart = $55 (Rounded)
  • BMW Oil Filter = $20 ? (Anyone know the actual price??)
So $75 in parts and $137 in labor???

Looks like I am doing my own oil change!!!!

Typical for metro area, "we gotta cover the overhead & it's a good
gross margin profit ctr" deal...that and you tie up their busy, busy,
making money, lift for 30 mins.

Germain BMW in Naples, at their new location, wanted a Buck Eighty
for a simple change, Lmao!

The indie price is reasonable...so is an easy DIY.

consider yourself blessed. BMW in Silicon Valley charges $280 which is why i am doing my own oil change. I buy my oil in pepboys for $6 each and filters from autohausaz.com for $7.95 each and free labor, and my cost is not even $60.

Orange County BMW in Monroe NY by the woodbury common shopping outlets only charge me $99 plus tax for an oil service not just the change.

Park Ave. BMW in Maywood NJ also would only charge me $99 plus tax for the same oil service.....

280 is RIDICULOUS

I woulda done this to him

then got the hell outta there looking like this

I hope you didnt pay for that or

considering that their place is in the heart of the silicon valley, pay the guy who would drive your car to their shop for a few feet, the guy who would actually work on your car, the SA who would take care and would call you, the car wash and telling customers that the next oil change is due in 15K miles regardless of your mileage, oh yeah, that comes up to $280. Did i tell you that you cannot wait, you have to come back after 5 hours or so. It's really crazy.
