X5 or 545i sport w/SMG Tranny

I need to get some input from anyone that can help.
I'm thinking of selling the X5 and buy a 05 545i sport. What do you guy's think? Reason is the following:

1) Better Gas Mileage then X.
2) Upgraded car, with waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy Less miles.

Now the down side:

1) Must go back to car payment.
2) Love my X, love it and will miss it for sure.
3) I've done all maintainance so know what I'm driving.

As you can see, I don't want to get rid of the X, but I'm coming close to the 100k mark, and warranty will be running out at 100,789 miles. I just don't want any problems to come around. So my question is, what would you guy's do if you were in my shoes? I'm kind of in between a rock and a hard place. All input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm guessing another X is out of the question?
I personally don't think i can go back to a car from SUV/SAV ... so, if i was in your shoes, i would look for another X or similiar.

It's always a personal choice in the end, but if it were me, I would keep the X5. Why? All of the reasons you mentioned. The big reason; money in the bank! Figure how much the 545 will cost you in car payments to really decide if you want to trade up. Now imagine all of the other things you can do with your money, like invest.

I didn't think the 545 had SMG?

Quicksilver will become famous soon enoughQuicksilver will become famous soon enough
Will the better MPG justify the car note and the increased insurance rate?

I think I might just keep it. You are all right. I've thought about it. Do you guy's feel it will be reliable for another 60k? Buy that time I might just dump it. But I have to say, it still drives perfect. I'm only worried about tranny issues around 120k.... By the way, Yes, 545i sport had that option, it was any option so it is a rare find. I have found 2 of them for about 28k price range, 05 with 48k on both. Not bad of a price. Thats why I'm thinking about it. But Investment is where I need to be in a tough economy that we are in today.

You could also look into a third party warranty if you want that peace of mind against trans failure.

If your X drives and looks great, if you still like it and you have already paid for it then it is a no brainer IMO. Even if you have a tranny issue or any other usual issue in the next 20k miles it will still cost you thousands less than paying for a 3 or 4 years old BMW. My X5 4.4 will reaching 100k in the next month or so and I went through the same thinking. It has been paid since day one of ownership back 6 years ago, I have kept it in perfect condition, it looks and drives great and I still get the 'wow that is a nice car' from a lot of people. I know everything about this car, what has been changed and what may break in the future. My warranty will expire in 2 months but I am still planning to keep it for another 2 or 3 years and may be more.

1) No the 545 dont have any better Gas miles then X5 .
like every one said keep the X and use the payment on the E60 to maintainance the X , then you dont have to miss the X (like you said)
anyways what ever you decide. If you go for 545 i see you in E60.net forum,if you stay with the X we see you here.
GL.

Deciding between an BMW X5 or 545 hardly qualifies as being between a rock and a hard place...
