NEWB WITH QUESTIONS PLEASE HELP

hi everyone! I've been looking through the forum the past week, tring to gather any information i could find. dont want to post up what has already been posted. pretty sure these are questions that have been ask before so sorry. im looking to buy a (e53) x5 going for the 4.6is. just wondering do they really have that many problems? is it fearly easy to work on? did they get better after 04? do the cons out weigh the pros? and any information that you think would be useful?

also im debating between the x5 and a e46 m3 smg witch would be better?

or

should i stay with my 323is and mod it?

sorry again for the newb questions. and thank you for your time.

Wow...Three very different cars so it is hard to point you in the right direction without knowing where you are coming from and what you will be primarily using them for.

Other than that my X5 has been wonderful since 2001 and 67,000 miles later.

SORRY its going to be my day to day with the occasional trip here and there. live in chicago deal with the snow my 323 got stuck a few times this winter was not fun. manly want to have a nice day to day that doesn't need to be fixed or taken to the dealership every month. it that helps

Mine has had very few required fixes. I have been very pleased with my X5 4.4 (2005). I doubt you will get stuck in the snow with it, unless you leave big fat tires on it.

Red. WOW... Not for me.
Not sure if thats factory either.

But to address your needs (a nice day to day that doesn't need to be fixed or taken to the dealership every month ?) Nobody can guarantee that kind of relationship with an X. I'm glad i had a warranty on mine.

Well your X5 is not going to be problem-less if thats what you're asking...The X is an excellent vehicle but needs to be maintained properly..If not, it will cost you $$$....But thats the same for every luxury vehicle.

It you are looking for a "day-to-day with occassional trip", why are you looking for the big, big engine? How much is premium in CHI - my son lives there so ... I know. Here's my 2 cents - get the 4.4 (3.0 has to work harder to push the mass of the X5) and surround yourself with the interior options that will make you feel at home on the road. Otherwise, get a METRA pass and enjoy the savings.
