Thanks
Xdrive is BMW's advanced new all-wheel drive system... I think there's an article on how it works on the main page here. My X5 was an '02 so it had the 5-speed.. I don't know what the 6-speed is like. I assume you're talking about the aluminum trim inside the car? If so, yes you can have it fitted. You can have any X5 trim (light poplar wood, anthracite wood, titanium, red, blue, etc.) retrofitted. The trim pieces for the most part just snap off and then you snap the new ones in. The exception is the center console, which must be unscrewed and removed during the switch. I don't think it's too hard though.

Edit: Try this link here for the Xdrive article.. If it doesn't work, you can find it on the main page here.

Throw another 10k and you can get a 4.8. When you sell it you will not get any money back for packages and options. On the other hand with 4.8 everything is standard except nav and load floor. At least this was my logic when I bought my 4.8 .

I had the same choice, new 4.4 or '03 4.6... dollars for donuts the new 4.4 had much more in features but the 4.6 IMHO was a blast to drive... ate the lunch of the 4.4... If you are buying it for your wife go with the 4.4, if you want something that rocks go with the 4.6..

BTW, 55K is a bit steep. I bought my 4.6 with NAV, four new Diamaris's tires and CPO for 52K. It had 21K miles... Good Luck!!

I never drove a 4.8, so I can't really compare that. However, I really love my 4.4. I came from a V8 MB CLK that kicked butt! This X5 does not disappoint in comparison. It actually has 40 more HP, and is just as luxurious. Not saying the 4.8 isn't better; just saying that the 4.4 is great!

I have only driven one 4.6is. As long as I own my 4.4i....I can never drive or ride in a 4.6 or 4.8. I like my X5 too much and if I were to buy a 4.6 my wife would divorce me, kill me and then do it all over again. I must stay satisfied with what I have....

I could always dump a dinan supercharger in there...421 hp...hmmmmmm....and she would never even notice...muha muha...muhahahahahahhahahhahaha (evil laugh)

Agreed. Also, a few key Dinan mods (throttle body, exhaust, s/w) will make up that 30hp difference real quick!!
