Scammed on Ebay!
Last weekend, I won ebay# 200216106755 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=200216106755 Today, I received the style 168 wheels w/tires only to find out that they are replicas. The seller had 100% feedback, and was local to chicago, so it gave me some comfort. I thought it was odd that after I won the wheels, I decided to look at his feedback, only to see a purchase from another ebay seller, factoryreproductions.... So, I paid through paypal with my citi mastercard. When I received the wheels today, I immediately called citi, and they have reversed the charges, for now. They are mailing me some documentation to fill out, and to provide pictures and receipts of the transaction. Anyone have advice on other steps to take in order to not get screwed? ![]() ![]()

That sucks, PayPal doesnt take the case when its that much right? Just curious why you didnt go through paypal? Well, other than the fact that Mastercard reversed it immediately.
So what happens to the wheels? Do you keep them? |

I don't mean to be confusing, I did use paypal, which I linked to my citi card.
Update: I called Paypal. The representative on the phone said that because the seller had over 50 feedbacks, and over 99% were good, Paypal will get the money back to me. Unfortunately, I will most likely have to pay to ship the wheels back, which will cost about $270, apparently. So, it could be a $270 lesson...

I do know this: after the smoke clears, I will be placing an order through morristown for oem 168's or 87's whichever is cheaper...

rasta: Paypal said in some instances they request that the items be destroyed.
I haven't opened the other 3 boxes per Paypal's request - there's a chance that some of the wheels are real, based on the picture from the ebay auction. But, at this point, I'm not sure I care.

Did you comminicate the problem with the seller? His photo shows the OEM wheels. Maybe he shipped the wrong wheels by mistake?

Been scammed twice on fleabay with non-OE parts being creatively passed off as OE. What were supposed to be original Zimmerman rotors for an Audi turned out to be a Taiwan-manufactured knockoff. Took almost a month for paypal to get me my money back, tough fortunately it wasn't a lot of money.
It's also amazing how many wheels are titled as OE, until you read the fine print in the add that then says OE-like. or OE-reproductions. Good luck with your quest. Has the seller offered any explanation?

I just opened up a Paypal dispute, with the text included below:
"I received the wheels today. They are not authentic wheels made by BMW as the auction states, but fake ones, that actually say replica on the inside." The seller will receive the email notification of the dispute above and hopefully work things out. It would seem odd that a seemingly simple guy would have fake and real 168's lying around...
