Michellin Diamaris Tires
Are there different types of Diamaris tires? I ask because I was at the local dealer here in Phoenix and need new tires, I have the Diamaris tires now on 19" rims (Sport package). The dealer gave me a quote but the local tire shop beat it (discount tires). So the S.A. at the dealer says to make sure their tires have the stars on them because Michellin makes those specifically for BMW vehicles. Have you heard of this before? I had discount tire check this and they only show one tire for the Diamaris....is the SA blowing smoke and trying to get business or could there really be different "classes" I guess of the Diamaris tire? Thanks for the help as I will be buying them tomorrow and need to know if I need the dealer ones. ~Ryan Phoenix, AZ |

Yes, some specific tire brands do have a star picture on the sidewall (e.g. Michelin Diamaris for the 19", or the Michelin Energy MXV4 for the 18").
That simply means these brands were approved by BMW to go OEM on the vehicle at the time of the sale. It does not mean they are the only tire brand suitable for the vehicle. For example, I just got 19"rims with the Michelin Latitude Touring HPs, which do not have the star symbol, because as my S.A. explained they are V-rated All-Seasons, and BMW only approves H-rating for All-Seasons. Irregardless, they are still great tires. In your case, if you have the OEM 19" sport wheels, then you have the staggered setup: 19 X9 rims on the front, and 19x10 on the rear. And if you're going for the Michelin Diamaris, there's really only one configuration of 255s on the front and 285s on the rear that are out there, whether you get them at the stealer or at the tire shop. And unlike my Latitudes, the Diamaris ARE BMW-approved, so you should see the star picture on each of the sidewalls. If you do not see the star picture at the tire shop then it's not the legitimate Diamaris tires and you should be cautious about what they're trying to sell you. |

Ditto. I'm in the same situation here in OKC.

Yeah, I'm due to replace this summer, so Thanks for the info. I had them priced at my local Michelin dealer last year for ~$1250 a set (includes high speed balancing & mounting)

Thanks Tomaz:
That price matches discount tire so I guess the dealer wanting 1650 to do the job is just too much! |

Also might want to check onlinetires.com. Seems to be the best price I could find. They are running a special now for free shipping on the Diamaris.

I had to replace one of the Diamaris on the rear a month or two ago. I did quite I bit of shopping around and found that the cheapest place in town was actually Sam's Club, I paid 300 dollars for the tire, install, balancing, tax and warranty. "Discount" tire places wanted 350 for just the tire.
