Mine are broken too!!

I have a 2004 X5 4.4 with the same folding mirror problem. I talked to the service dept. at the local BMW dealer and told him this seems to be a common problem according to the X5 World web site. He told me he had never heard of this happening. I think he may be telling me a story!!! I will be trying to repair this myself or I will just live with the problem.

I have the same problem, just picked up my 04 X5 and the mirrors don't stay folded in, they open out right away. Sometimes one folds in and back out and the other side doesn't do anything.

I found this webpage that describes how to fix the issue.

http://www.justanswer.com/questions/...-02-x5-playing

I'm worried about damaging the casing, but I'd like to try fixing it!

mine is the same, the mirrors are totally messed up. How much would it be to switch to manual ones? because i'm seriously considering it. You can't open the x5 mirrors manually if it is an automatic mirror, so that sucks.
