Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm going to the dealer today to see how much my car is worth, but yes, I did notice the X5 haven't dropped (or at least not much ) in value as opposed to say a Navigator

To some extent the area of the USA where the vehicle is offered may be a determining factor if your selling privately. Trade in is another matter.

I'm not selling but i have been curious regarding what the dealer was asking for a vehicle of the same vintage as mine. Haven't noticed the 4.4's but there were a lot of 3.0's selling for around $34K.

I also saw at least 60 BMW ads in the local rag. But that could be a result of some folks who decided to get a BMW at the same time they over extended themselves with housing. But i will look at the dealer inventory today just for fun.

I traded a car at carmax and they gave me 4k more than anyone else...basically they keep it real simple...they trade KBB and retail KBB...not much more science to it than that.

i find it amazing how many people are saying "the gas guzzel" thing on here...seems like they are all east coast people, like always

same people said i would be lucky to get 18K...even carmax offered more than that.....i havent listed or tried to sell mine yet.

just remember Imola, 99.999999% of the people who give you an opinon of what its worth, were not buyers anyway.....First rule in selling ANYTHING, sell/trade for whats it worth to YOU...not what its worth to the person making you an offer.

Yes I kept my 1982 Celica for another five years, because it was worth more to me. However if you want to sell you need to price at or below market value.

sure, but what is "market value"? i am selling houses (that i own) in arizona (which people are saying is a down market) for what EVERYONE is telling me is over "market value".....heck im ever renting for more than "the experts" say i should be....I just rented one home 3 months ago...like 5 RE agents..experts in the area told me $3-$3.5K per month, and to be happy about it. I had the same discussion we are having here with them....they gave me the same "market value" crap...down economy, etc etc etc. I told them to pound sand, listed it for $5K per month, rented it in 6 days and had 2 back ups.....

if your truck is worth 35K too you...i bet, somewhere there is someone who feels the same way as you...

I sold my last car for about 30% MORE that "market value" and had multiple people trying to buy it....

and why the hell would ANYONE sell for less than your magic "market value". if thats what its worth, thats what its worth......everyone seems like they are always trying to "get the deal" untill THEY need to sell something, they they are on some forum somewhere posting about how they are losing thier a$$ based on a mystical "market value"........
