Buying an '05 4.8is.....

Been awhile since I posted...feels good.

After selling my 330, I have had BMW withdrawals. In fact, I've gone through an M35X and currently have Jeep GC SRT8 and hate them both.

My wife now wants an X5. I only want a V8, and the '08's are priced out of my comfort zone....so I looked around and found a 2005 4.8is with 33,000 miles...only 38k.

I feel it's a good deal.

Any 4.8 owners out there that can warn of any potential reliability issues for that particlar year?
Consumer Reports says 05 V8's had poor reliability in the areas of minor transmission, power equipment and audio systems.

Thanks.

Do a couple quick searches and you will find a ton of complaints about the following:

Transmission or Trans software
Window Regulators

Other then that, just the basic little BMW nuances. I don't think there is anything in particular to the 4.8. The 4.8 and 4.4 motors have been used through out the BMW lineup.

Enjoy!

Would you recommend upon purchase that I immediately have the dealer upgrade to the latest software?

I have a 03 e53 4.6is and it has had a few minor issues, but nothing that would have detoured me from making the purchase over again. In fact it was the best decision I have ever made when it comes to buying a vehicle! Thier are a ton of 4.6's & 4.8's for sale right now and it's a buyers market, have fun and find the exact one you want!

You may want to look for one with OEM Nav, that will help you keep your re-sale value up further down the road!

The one I am looking at has Nav and comfort seats. And the sliding load floor. But no heated steering wheel.

You and I are in the same boat! Cool! I too am looking for an 04-06 4.8is. However, I am looking for the NO nav, sport seats, no care in load floor, and want heated wheel. someting under 40K and lower miles. Make mine blue or red please.

I just wish I was closer to the ones I like.

Good luck.

I am drooling over that one. That is EXACTLY what I am looking for right price and right millage. The problem is I am in VA. I don't have time to fly out, check it out, and have it shipped back. I just don't feel safe to spend that much and not touch the thing.

Just not sure how to make that work Have $$ just no X5
