Ethanol in a 01 4.4

I'm looking at a 01 4.4 and was wondering if an ethanol blended gas is ok to use with the 4.4? I'm not concerned with water issues and quality of gas bc it has been proven in my area\environment on other vechiles....just want to know if ethanol is ok to use with the X5 to meet the octane rating

I tried using ethanol during my bi-annual trips from ID to NJ & SC and back - found out after 1 tank of ethanol, it took at least 3 tankfulls of reg gas to get back to normal mileage and a fuel filter - If you plan to run ethanol fulltime, it maybe OK - But my experience show lousy mileage with the next 2 tankfulls of reg gas
