bimmer1000 is on a distinguished road
ABS MODULE

How do you remove ABS module from 2000 x5, 4.4? My speedometer does not work. ABS and DCS light are on also. Mechanic said it's the ABS module./ 1200$ from dealer 300$ rebuilt. ANy Info????????

if you're speedo doesn't work it's your left rear wheel speed sensor! FIND ANOTHER MECHANIC!

disagree. This can really be the ABS module. I have seen those errors on E36 and E39 vehicles.

Mechanic also said that he could not communicate with module and it needs to be replaced.

Remove the left headlight and the carrier that holds steering fluid container, then you will see the ABS/DSC module which looks like a black box. Remove the six screws that hold the module, remove the wiring plug, then the module is off. Replace the module with the new one, and encode the module. Be noticed that when installing the new module, make sure that the screws are tighen to 2.9 Nm (first install the 6 screws without tighten down, then tighten the screws in a specified sequence to make sure the module is evenly tighten to the hydraulic unit), and the solenoid coils are not tilted. You must encode the module after installing.

WHERE CAN I GET A RE-Built ABS Module? You're right. ABS module new is 1205!

Try ModuleMaster. They are a bit high on the price but it worked for me.
