Got nudged in the rear - minor damages..

Got the bumper all scratched up and paint peeled off.. not as bad as it sounds, although it's all bad. So I dropped my truck to mechanic today for some work i planned to do and asked him about the bumper - he said i'd have to go to body shop and it could be $1500 cuz they have to replace bumper. Kinda crazy. It wasn't bad enough for me to call insurance yet - no dents or anything. the old lady that hit me was very nice and apologetic (could have been an aunt of mine so i didnt yell at her or act ignorant.. it was an accident and at the corner we were on it was waiting to happen).

so i got her info she offered to pay out of pocket, but i got her insurance info as well. So we'll see.. i know i need to post pictures for this question to be answered but there seems to be no deep scratches etc - cant i just have the bumper stripped and repainted? unfortunately (for her) it's all one piece..

There's nothing worse than someone else screwing up your ride when you take such good care of it. You did good not going off on the old lady. I came out of a restaurant to find the driver's side of my baby wiped out. I felt way too shallow going off on the moron once I saw him flipped over in front of me.

It was hard though, I couldn't breathe looking at my baby. I was so upset, I didn't even throw myself on the floor and ask the fireman for mouth to mouth

She'll be good as new in no time.

If all you have are scratches then yes, they should be able to sand down and repaint. Worse case they have to use a little filler to level out the scratches.

Please change title from "got rear ended" to "got nudged in the behind"

This is rear-ended:
