Resetting oil service light

So I decided to give the x5 an oil service DIYusing hayaku's writeup along with the cabin filter replacement and addition of fluids after seeing the oil service message come on when the car is first started. Everything's done except for the resetting of the service light. I followed the writeup here but am not getting the messages it says I should get ie.oil service, reflash etc. I followed this writeup http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...+service+light for my 09/02 build X5. For some reason, I when I press the odometer button it says, CHECK CONTROL OK, then I turn the key to ON position and it just reads TEST NR-01 and TEST NR-02, then CHECK CONTROL OK. I'm not sure why this is happening. Any help? Thanks guys

Jay

Hi Jay, you're pressing the check contol button - follow the procedure using the other button (left side).

For the record, this procedure does not work for me (July 2001 4.4is) - the fuel amount resets ok but the LEDs do not reset.

Okay, I tried it and I'm only seeing the INSPECTION message when I should be seeing the OIL SERVICE message. I don't wanna rest this as it will throw off when I have to do my inspection. Any thoughts? lol

I believe the service indicator alternates between OIL SERVICE and INSPECTION. So it sounds like you are due for an INSPECTION and resetting the system will clear this indicator.

I have a 2005 4.4i. I just changed the oil and when I try to reset the oil indicator it does the same thing as JayX5. The DIY process works on my 2002 X5. Is there any way to reset the oil indicator on our X5's or do we need to hook it up to a computer?? This isnt an issue of the cars being due for an inspection. Oil and reset doesnt pop up. It only says check ok and then when you move the key to #1 position it gives you a hole bunch of tests that you could run.
