Dude, if you pay a cent over $29K for this 3.0, you are letting the dealer rip you a new A$$hole. As you can see from the other posters, there are folks picking up low mileage 4.4s for that price.

To be honest, this is would be my first BMW, and i care very little about fuel economy, since this won't be my main car..
I do not agree that the average used CPO X5 buyer is "wealthy". At least not to the point where they're completely unaffected by gas prices. The truly wealthy impulse buyers who could care less about mileage are buying Ferraris, Porsches, and new M3s. Not used E53 3.0s. Therefore the stealers will either adjust their E53 prices to realistic market levels for an SUV-averse economy, or lose a whole lot of moolah.

I am here to discuss and appreciate positive feedback; I have rarely made an imprudent financial decision in my short 32 years and I'm not about to start now...but that is why I'm here and noting what I've observed in my month of stealer interactions.

I never claimed that the average CPO buyer is wealthy. I did imply that the wealthy May be more likely to walk in and haggle less, especially in Manhattan, where some people buy an X5 (3.0 or 4.4) just to go back and forth from the Hamptons for a couple of summers---these people obviously won't lose sleep over $3-5K if they are getting a car that meets their specs. That's why I think there is little wiggle room in Manhattan despite the fact there may be an advantage with dealing with a corporate-run dealership. I have about 2 months before I actually Need the car, which in theory should be to my advantage, but so far the experience has been souring.

I've looked at Ebay, Cars.com etc.

If there is a car that is listed at $28000 with 25,0000 miles it is usually Olivine Green, Leatherette, or missing some desirable features. I invite anyone to find me a deal with a clean Carfax CPO 4.4 in Silver, Black, or Gray, 2005 or 2006, 20K miles or less, Cold Weather package, Park Sensors (NAV preferred but not necessary) in the $28K range. We can even negotiate a finder's fee. I would preferably like it to be within 100 miles of zip code 08540.

IF you have the $ and don't want to spend the extra time SHOPPING for a deal... go for it. It took me about a month to find my car. You asked if it's a good deal and most answers are... NO! I assume NJ/NY? has a lot of dealerships and cars, so your inventory should be good.

You can go to ebay... put in all the parameters you want and then save it for 60 days. Check it once a day and see if what you want comes up.

Here are some I quikly pulled out...

None of those are CPO

I've already looked at Ebay....they are a few thousand cheaper than CPO, that's where the difference lies. At the same time, people here will say don't buy a used one that's not CPO. Not only that, all of those were almost 30K miles. I understand that it may take some time, but I would love to see someone truthfully come on here and say the got a 4.4 with 20k (or less) miles CPO'd at under $30K. I know it will take some time.
