ABS failure causes loss of engine power?
Pardon me If I just created the most stupid thread ever, but this is what Im concerned of:
I have ABS, DSC and brake lights yellow on my board. The interesting thing about them is that they dont come up as soon as I start a vechicle, the will come up as I reach speed of 40 km/h. then if Im going slow again lights wont go off, they stay till I restart the car, then the story repeats. Dont think it could be module, because if its faulty - it would signal from the very start( am I right?) and untill I reach my first 40 km/h ABS is working fine(tried that on the snow) My speedo is working fine, and angle-sensor thing wont help(turning steering from left to right )Along with that I havepower loss with my X. and here what I found : http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/BMW_docs/x5dscd.pdf page number 18, Engine intervention. U get the idea... Two questions: 1. Any Ideas whats wrong with my ABS and 40 km/h thing? (pump, linings, connections, maybe module itself, sensors) 2. If the power loss is somehow in relationship with malfunctioning ABS

Bad Steering angle sensor...Mine did the same thing...Same exact symptoms.. But mine doesn't have engine power loss or anything like that. Eventually your ABS, DSC, Brake light thing will stay on all the time, it starts out just like you describe, intermittent..

angle sensor, speed sensor or both of them?
Wouldnt it throw a code or something? would speedo work if it was a wheel speed sensor? wouldnt the thing react to lock-to-lock steering wheel turnings if it was an angle sensor.. guys, im really confused.... and the most interesting that about all that is a dealer saying - BAD ABS Module. because it throws no codes... also he explained that the the module checks itself only at speed more than 40 km/h - then three little yellow lights come up... As Im writing this post, and Idea came up to me - maybe I should ask them to read codes/diagnose AFTER I reach that speed and lights are on.. because as far as I know dealer turned my car on, never reached that speed( max 5km/h to drive the car next to their computer )and checked the system without those lights on board.I think should be worth of trying.. Can I have few words from your experience, guys? P.S. We have to create something like ZEITGEIST movie on official bmw dealers =)) |

Is it possible to disconnect ABS module and see if the lights come up instantly as I switch the ignition on?
Because Its pretty weird, that ABS DSC and brakes all come up only if I accelerate faster. And I really dont think that its ABS module itself. Any other way to check the thing?

It was a bad ABS pump. Stupid thing couldnt make enough pressure for the system to function properly. Pressure increases with speed. thats it.
![]() No connection with engine power loss. It was a vanos problem.. anyway, I just sold my X few weeks ago... had too many problems.. sad but true. btw Im getting infiniti FX. good luck guys |
