This site is here to help and it's nice to see when other members find the help they need. My rear passenger door carrier broke recently and that was a more difficult fix. It's the same basic procedure but was more challenging fitting the carrier and getting the small hex screw to line up with the metal fake lock cylinder. That was a major PITA.

ok, I found the pics real helpful. There was one issue with trying to remove my door panel and it's located in the center. There is a clip that only let's you pull upward in order for it to release. Heck, I used a crowbar on mine and popped it out before I could visually see how it works. Anyways, spend $125 tax included at my local BMW Stealership and installed the Carrier in about 1-1/2 hours. I had no time to look for the better deal since it's my wifes daily driver and it transports a 3 year old. All good now. I actually inspected where the part failed and it just pops right back together. It's a design flaw.

				Awesome Write-up
Excellent job and pics. I am ordering the part from morristown today. My local stealer wants $100 for it and they'll probably give me a right side. When i tried to open the door from the outside i heard a small piece of something drop and ting on the inside of the door. The outside handle isn't sitting just right now. I'm assuming I need the same part. I 'd rather not take it apart and leave it til i get the part so I'm gambling it's the same part. Joe Bo |

Are you talking about the black trim that goes around the lock post or the outside painted cover around the key lock? If it's the former, I didn't willingly take it off. It sort of crumbled on me and fell out. It's really thin plastic and old so some of the plastic at the base cracked and broke off.

Thank you for posting this excellent DIY guide. I just finished replacing my driver door carrier. Took me about an hour start to finish. The cable on mine had stretched to the point that I had to yank on the door handle to get it open. Got the part from my local dealer for $100.

I did this today. Not fun. Took a little under 2 hours. Without these write ups I would have been lost. Thanks so much. BTW, the carrier was $119 in SoCal. I called three dealerships and $119 was the cheapest quote. |

Glad I can help. The carriers can be found online cheaper. The last one I bought was an aftermarket version. I figured that aftermarket can't be worse than the OEM piece that breaks anyway.
