Weasel will become famous soon enough
will look forward to it, as it's bound to be better than my offroad/drifting/donuts in the 03 as mine were across a whole field... but at a strong angle though.

Let's plunk down the coin for a seriously wonderful BMW, disconnect the electronics, and then see how long the remaining mechanical systems last while we thrash them in a way the engineers never intended. Ummm.. no.

Dudes, you're trying to drift .. an electronically dependent 4wd system with fat wide tires.. all designed to keep you connected. For goodness sake, get your self a Porsche Cayman or Z3 Coupe.

Oranges and Apples; THe reason the X5 did so well on the 5th Gear track for time.. ITS A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE MATES!! We're comparing track times with drifting. uhhh.. drifting.. loses time on a track. It's purely for fun.

I could get my 03 3.0 sideways around a u-turn when it is wet! Just gatta try hard enough, turn off dsc, and just boot it from stop!

I did that once with the 4.8, it's far too unpredictable because all of a sudden it hooks up and the torque steer is intense b/c it transfers all the power forward even with the DSC off to compensate for oversteer, lesson learned don't do that unless you are really paying attention. That's the one good thing about ESP in the Benz's, if you get past 15 degrees in a non-AMG and around 25 in an AMG or a little more in a PP AMG it re-engages because you can't really recover once you get past a certain point, the DSC just stays off (good for a track but not everyday play)

Sideways

Yeah, that's the problem with more and more layers of traction control. I want them, but I want the car to come with an easy way to switch off each layer. I'd like to make my own decisions.

When the original Michelins were finally shot on my 3.0i, I could slide her easily in the wet with the DSC off (rains a lot in Oregon, so I had a lot of opportunity). Massive understeer due to the low tread tires. Had to pump up the fronts and lower the rears pressure, and then you could throw the back end. Picked up new tires this year tho.. so the fun house is over. Just too much traction.

I love the Coupe's DSC programming. Press it once, and you shut of the fuel cut layer and most of the CBC (corner braking control). Press and hold, and the whole system goes off. That's three choices (including full DSC).

What I don't like about the non X-drive X's is that when you turn off DSC, it isn't really off. CBC is still engaged ( "pop" "POP" go the brakes when you start to slide), and... everyone knows this right? .. turning it off actually engages a side to side slip program with the brakes. It puts the vehicle into off road mode. Picture going slow over plate ice or slick mud. It will brake on one wheel HARD, effectively locking it out completely, which forces the differential to put torque into the opposite wheel. Think of it as X-Drive 1.0.

That's all fine.. just gimme a button that lets me turn that layer on or off. If I want to have some fun in the X, I don't want that shit on.
