OK Silver....the guys at Highline picked up the X5 this morning to finish the PAC module with the steering wheel controls with the BMW Bluetooth device disabled but they still can't get the PAC module to work with the steering wheel buttons because of the digital voltage difference. So they are going to swap out the resistors on the steering controls so that the voltage will match that of the PAC module and get it working.

Is this what you did with yours to get it to work?

We were trying to stay away from this since we won't be able to easily go back to stock.

No I did not run into that problem, I guess mine was prewired for the phone but not the bluetooth since I have an 01 4.4 sport. I connected it to (if I remember correctly) the Yellow/White wire under the steering column.

OK yeah they are saying that there were only 3 models that had this issue and that was the 04,05, and 06 X5, X3 and 7 series that have the integrated Bluetooth hands free option.

They'll get it to work but I won't be able to go back to stock unless I can pick up whole new set of steering controls from a comparable vehicle.

Wow! Sad to hear but you will love the SW controls once they are working.... That was my only downfall with going with aftermarket system but now that I have it, it just gives me more love for my /////Alpine.

BMW & /////Alpine, such a great match....

Quite a few of the OEM amps in BMWs are made by Alpine... so,

I noticed that when removing some of the components such as the CD Changers are same with the exception of Alpine's being gray with Alpine on it and BMW's black with BMW on it.... Both use the same CD Magazine

But I think my E32 740iL had the Pioneer CD Changer.

OK they dropped it back by last night. So I had them set the R/T button as the source select and then the speak button for mute on the radio (the AVIC Z3 has voice commands for the hands free bluetooth so I didn't need the control for that).

Highline also said that if I want to change any of the controls I can stop by and they'll set it up for what I want.

Thanks again everyone for your help and those with the 04, 05, or 06 X5 with the handsfree bluetooth if you go with an aftermarket setup be ready to have to modify the steering wheel controls themselves to be able to get them to work. ;-)

lucasrj - Do you know what brand camera was used here? That is the smallest I have seen. I'll look around on the net but I was hoping you can save me the trouble.

I installed an AVIC-Z1 in my X a few years back and use the steering wheel remote provided by Pioneer as it has more options and is custom made for the Z series. The item number is CD-SR1.

Also if you had the Business CD in before the Pioneer I don't know how they would put your old radio back in as they have to cut your bracket to get it in. Here is what your bracket looks like before the cut. That area in red has to be cut to allow the Pioneer to center correctly. Once cut it can't be uncut. Maybe clued back together (if they gave you the pieces)?
