BMW X5 goes 200,000 miles!

Congrats on the 200K miles....I'm right behind you at 178K miles. Agreed with automatic transmission....I changed my fluid and guess what, about 10K miles later, it broke. I assume you didn't change your front and rear diff fluid either. Keep us updated...

I thought I had a bad seal in back differential, a little seepage. We checked
level and it was OK. But then I saw the deal, the helical gears just splash
with the oil in the bottom of case. So my seals are leaking just a little,
no big deal since it doesn't affect lubrication as it is not under pressure.

I do some towing, 2500 pound double Jetski trailer, and so far the tranny seems to be holding together.

If something big breaks I think I want to do what we do with over the hill jetski's, part it out! After buying stuff like the "controller" for $300 that goes into the intake manifold I know I have tons of $$$ in parts. This car has never been wrecked, so doors, hood, fenders, all the new parts, etc should bring a fair price. Right now I guess this machine is worth about $7K
in running condition as it is with 200K miles. I bet it's worth an easy $15K in parts..............

I put in my Jetski. Change oil about 12K to 15K. (Note this is an edit
from first post, it was typo on my part)

Oh guys, notice my black electrical tape fix for the check engine light?
It's been on for 6 years......nobody ever could figure out why it was
on.......yeah I did the gas gap, prayed over it, etc..........

Congrats on your 200k miles!

I am a new owner of an 05 X5 3.0i with only 45k miles on it (still under mfg warranty for a couple of more months) and must say I never really doubted the engine could do that kind of mileage... may be I am too new and naive, but I am into motorcycling and in motorcycle world, BMW engines with 60-80k miles are considered to be in their early-mid life.

I must say I was worried about all the other expenses around this car, but given the way it drives and feels, I don't think I will mind the extra expenses, at least that is how I am feeling now.
