yet another battery question

Hi all:
firtst time here, but been a long time member of the other site, I have a 2001 x5 3.0, need to replace battery, but the only battery I can find is from walmart everstart 49-1, this is spec for x5 4.4, does any one know if this will fit - hate to bring it back and forth. also the tech in walmart said I need to get a "radio code" from the dealer in order for my radio to work after disconnet the power, is this true ?
I did search the archive, nothing about 49-1 fit for 3.0.

Thanks

From my memory, I am quite certain that others have used the "4.4 battery" in lieu of the "3.0 engine size" battery.
Be sure it has the vent hole or, punch out for venting.

I would really rec'd running a trickle charger on your "new" battery, for 24 hrs...they don't come from Walmart fully
topped off and a fast hot charge, is not what you need, imo. The swap is easy. I had zero problems with radio pre-sets,
radio working, etc., after the new batt. install.

The battery should work fine... And I actually got one without a vent hose and its been working just fine going on 2 years now...Also. You do not need a radio code..That idiot at wal mart has no idea what he's talking about..these aren't Acura's...

In my opinion..leave wal mart out of it...Go to autozone or advanced auto parts, or an auto parts store.....get your battery there..

When I went to Batteries Plus recently to buy a replacement battery for my 3.0i, I asked if I could use the 4.4i battery instead (since it is a heavier duty battery, it seemed like a good idea to me). I was told that 4.4i battery has the positive / negative terminals are on opposite side as the 3.0i battery. This would make the cables running to the battery potentially not within range of making the connection.

Being unable to verify this while at the store to make my purchase, I went with the 3.0i spec battery. You may want to check this yourself before purchasing.

Now I recall a post or two about the batt terminals being reveresed,
as UCrew posted...but, I also recall other posters using the 49 series
for 3.0s. As primetime wrote, I would skip WallyWorld and hit an
Autozone or Batteries Plus or a lil' more quality/car parts oriented
joint. I would still do an overnight slow/trickle charge to slowly
bring new battery up to full, but that's just me.
If you need pics/DIY link, let us know...

The vent hose isn't really for the operation of the battery. It is to prevent YOU from breathing in that toxic acid fumes.

And, to prevent/reduce the chance of hydrogen & oxygen gases from
building up in that compartment...explosive.
