guys! The 87s definitely changed the cars appearance. I was annoyed mostly before by the offset of my 18s in the rear. Now the wheels are close to being flushed with the fenders

Being able to hide the notorious brake dust is definitely a plus

Do they sell oem graphite 87s? The M5 graphite wheel color was what I was aiming for. Any lighter and it's getting close brakedust color.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
There is a forum member from Puerto Banus who had graphite 87's from new, but I'm not sure. I could see if they're available new from the dealer, but they would be expensive. How much did you pay for yours on craigslist? Are they reps, OEM, or refinished OEM?

I am pretty sure they are reps because the bmw by the lugs are missing. The guy I bought it from told me they got it from the dealer and the dealer had it chrome plated. I got them dirt cheap($80) but spent about another $150 for sandblasting, fixing a tiny dented lip, and paint materials. I wasn't sure how gunmetals would look so I painted them. If the current paint goes bad then I'll reshoot with a gun and get better paint and clears. Powder coat is another option but harder to switch colors in case it didn't turn out how I want them.

So what kind of paint did you use? Was it rattle can? Did you mix up a candy black or a graphite color in a hvlp gun?

I ask because I am great with DIY mods and even have axcess to damaged BMW wheels to practice on.

I used cans: rustoleum auto primer from HD, duplicolor wheel paint, and duplicolor high heat clears. If you are a DIY type of guy then this should be cake. Prepping will be the key to a good finish.

Here's how it looked before:

After sandblasting:

Fresh paint in direct sunlight:

The duplicolor wheel paint had some metal flakes mix in so the wheel change colors depending on the lighting.
