I had the exact problem. My fan would work but when I turned the car off it would still come back on. It would turn off for a second and come back on. My battery also died. I had to jump the car every morning. I replaced the Final Stage Resistor and it started to work perfectly. Why do you think its not the final stage resistor, Have you replaced it before?

Yah, this sounds like FSR.

Thanks for the reply. No, I have not replaced the final stage resistor. The posts I've seen regarding the FSR all seemed to state the fan was either non-functional, or running full blast when the vehicle was on, which didn't fit the symptoms I described. Sounds like you had exactly what I describe so I'll try a new FSR and see what happens! Thanks!

I meant to post results back here sooner. I finally dug out the manual (gaaakk!) and located the fuse for the blower fan (50 amp) and pulled it out. The X5 sat for two weeks while I was out of town and when I returned - it fired right up! I ordered the FSR, cost around $75 delivered, and within an hour had swapped it out and the X5 hasn't had a dead battery since. Thanks for those who pointed this problem out!!!!
