Exclamation SES Light - OBDII Code P0443

P0443 - EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition

(From my initial research) I realize that I'll most likely be changing out my Purge Valve (A.K.A the Fuel Tank Breather Valve) to correct this SES light issue, so I wanted to ask for your assistance once again.

If anyone knows how to change the Purge Valve on a 2001 X5 4.4i, please post some instructions if you don't mind. I'm big on DIY, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated; from what I hear, it's a quick fix if you know what to do.

I just know I don't want to pay the dealer $300-400 for parts and 30 minutes of labor.

Thank you a ton in advance.

I know everyone () will be excited to know that I changed out my purge valve/fuel tank breather valve (OEM part # 13 90 1 433 603) in less than 30 minutes.

I will post some pics of the valve location and some basic instructions for those others out there who might be interested; it was pretty damn easy, and I saved some cash in the process.

My X5 is no longer throwing the P0443 code; however, you will most likely have to clear out the code (unless you don't mind waiting for a few starts and few miles before it clears itself out). I cleared the code myself, but I've heard the X's CPU will eventually clear it once that "issue" is corrected.

A little (but not far) off topic: My 2000 Yukon throws the P0443 (same evap code) about 2-3 times a year. I had the purge canister replaced and the solenoid...and it worked fine, for a month or two until the code came back.

The solution, was to buy a code reader on ebay for $75, and clear the code whenever it comes up Seriously, if it came back on immediately after clearing it, I'd spend the time and money to get it repaired. But only coming on a couple times a year? Eh, it's got 177,000 miles on it anyway - and the code clearly doesn't hurt anything, it doesn't cause poor performance or loss of mileage. I simply plug in my code reader and clear it and wait 6 months for it to eventually come back on!

Mine came on and off for 3 months, finally changed the part while the light was off. I'm just waiting to see if the light will come on again. Day 2.
