Any warranty company that is serious about paying towards repairs on a used vehicle will definitely have a pre-inspection on a car prior to writing a warranty, to make sure there are no pre-existing conditions that need to be done.
I am not familiar with this warranty, but having searched for similar warranties just recently (my X5 just ran out of its original 4yr/50k this past Feb./2009, I could not find one that I liked their terms and conditions. Some were too good to be true, and doing some searches on google and such proved as such to me. Some were ok, but the cost was prohibitive. Do your own research before getting any extended warranty... it is too easy for them to not pay (or not pay enough) when the time comes. |

Also to consider is whether or not you have to pay upfront and then get reimbursed. Better to leave that to the dealers warranty admin. Some aftermarket warranty policy companys play games but then again some don't. Also are they backed by a decent company that will stay in biz.

Another way to get some good info about the aftermarket warranties would be to ask your service adviser and/or independent shop as they have to deal with them all. I know my SA has dealt with them enough to know which ones give easy coverage (explanation over the phone followed by the issuance of purchase order) and which ones are a pain in the ass (cut back labor times, not cover all items, send an inspector to document every little thing, expects me to prove an internal failure of a control module in a way that can be photographed, etc.)

The warranty has pretty much paid for itself by now as I've had a myriad of things replaced under warranty. But I found as the cumulative cost of my repairs approached and surpassed the cost of the warranty, they are way more scrupulous and downright defiant in approving claims that probably should be approved. I've had two window regulators, alternator, control arms and bushings, and several other things repaired. But if the repair bill for a covered part seems unreasonable to them (around $1000 or more) they send an inspector out. This is the worst! Here's the procedure: 1)You have to call to say, "hey, xyz is wrong with my X and I'm taking it to the XYZ shop". 2)You're responsible for tear down and/or diagnosis costs unless the part is covered. The mechanic calls them and says whats wrong with the car (sometimes they have to fax/submit a written estimate). 3)Then the mechanic has to wait for the claims dept to get back to them with an approval number. 4)If the claim seems too expensive to the warranty company, they request to your mechanic that they leave the car apart and they send an "independent" inspector the next day. The inspector makes sure whatever part the mechanic says was broken IS broken and needs to be replaced/fixed (or NOT), takes pictures, and then submits his findings to warranty america. 5)THE NEXT DAY, the company calls the mechanic whenever they get around to it (I usually call them and rush them to their decision) and they give the approval or denial. 6) At that point, MAYBE the mechanic has enough time to finish the job by days end. And MAYBE the claim is covered, maybe not. Once with the control arms situation, they did all this and then some because they felt the mechanic was charging too much for the replacement part (I'm sure he was, I havent since returned to him, he is a RIPOFF ARTIST). They refused to pay his cost for the replacement part and offered to send the part (aftermarket) overnight. I dont remember the exact price, but if it was $250, they offered the mechanic $110 towards the cost of the part. So I was forced to either wait an additional day for the part, or pay the difference out of pocket. I think that time I waited since I take the subway to work during the week. My point in saying all this is sometimes, things can go really smoothly with them and you can have your repair covered with no problem and your car back the same day. But then there are times when you can drop your car off on a Monday and not get it back until Friday. Overall, with driving to work not being an absolute necessity, I can work around the idiosyncrasies. And again, so far, its paid for itself.
