BATTERY LIGHT HELP

Today i done the pixel fix, which worked fine. When i took my clocks apart i noticed a piece of black tape over the bulb for the battery light. I took this off. Put the clocks back together and now the battery light is on when the car is running. I have only had the car a month. I have put a new battery on it. Ive have run the carsoft dignostic program and had no errors. I then run the live data program and the battery volts was 13.6/13.7. So the alternator is charging.

Any idears???

Try putting a piece of black tape over the bulb, that should take care of it

^^LOL! Anyways it sounds like someone was trying to pass inspection, I usually see people put black tape over the check engine light. What does the owner's manual state.

Only thing I could find in the Owner's Manual for my 2002 is the following (on page 18):

Quote:
Red: Stop Immediately
Battery charge current
The battery is no longer being charged. There is a malfunction of the alternator drive belt or in the charging circuit of the alternator. Please contact the nearest BMW Sports Activity Vehicle center.

If the drive belt is defective, do not continue driving. The engine could be damaged due to overheating. If the drive belt is defective, increased steering effort is also required.
I'd think you'd notice if the drive belt was defective. Without the charge circuit working, I'd think you're battery would have died by now. Odd.

There are electronic versions of the owners manual on the home page - http://www.xoutpost.com/

You didn't reference what year your X5 is, otherwise I would have provided you the direct link to it.
