End of Warranty Checkup
I just bought a 2006 4.8is and the warranty expires in about a month and I want to make the most of it. Before you ask, in the UAE they only come with a 2 year warranty. What potential problem areas should the dealer check for?
Dealer recommended a service they call end of warranty checkup. Does anyone know what's included in that? Thanks! |

Never heard of an "end of warranty checkup"
Hope it works out for you though.

Here in the US, we have 4 years and many of us go into the dlr near
the expiration time, hoping our concerns will be listened to, and that a thorough exam will take place; sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not. It seems to depend upon the particular dlr and the "relationship" one has with that dlr. Two years is a short time, and other than the usual quirks and glitches, there is no handy list I know of, to draw from. Here in the US, we can press for brake fluid change at that time, oil change and a thorough "look over"; the first two usually get taken care of, but the "exam" part is usually a head pat and cursory "look" as our Inspection 1 does not come up until much later, time and mileage wise. I would rec'd you do some reading here on boards of the usual stuff that goes in the first 3-4 years, make a list and press your dlr for a good inspection of your concerns. You posted in the E53 forum, not the newer model E70, and that is a little odd to me, time-wise for your car. Off the top of my head: water pump, first stage resistor, CV boots, (esp in sandy conditions), front brakes & pads, window lift regulators, any engine leaks, coolant reservoir and related hoses, etc. GL,mD

motordavid, thanks for the reply. Yeah, 2 years is a short time which is why the used car market here is much riskier here than, say, in the US or Canada where you get the 4 years and you can get additional years with a CPO.
I was curious if this end of warranty checkup was a known service because I'd like to see a list of everything they plan to do. The guy said he'll need the car for 2-3 days and will charge me around $400. Quote:

Sounds like "Inspection 1" here in the Colonies, but earlier in the car's
life span... fwiw, Insp 1 is listed on the front page of this forum, though I watched my car having it "done" and it was on the lift for the time it took to change the oil. There was very little "inspection", imo. Hopefully your dlr is more on the up & up, and/or that end of warranty inspection has some teeth. The 2-3 days seems like a long time, but that may add to the ambiance of a "real" inspection and survey and, fixes. GL,mD
