Question about X5 with high Mileage... Please Help.

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2004 or 2005 BMW X5 4.4, Sport package edition on either year and both that I'm looking at have high mileage, around 90K. Are there any major problems that I need to know about before I make a decision? If I got this vehicle, I would probably driving it until it hit around 130K. I heard BMW are more dependable than most when they hit over 100K. I thank you for any remarks and comments in helping me make my decision.

if you look through the threads you will see that bmws do give a "few" problems, my x5 is now on about 150k and runs sweetly, id advise a good service, change transmission fluid, and most importantly learn about the car, a lot...no...tons of money can be saved this way .........i almost sold my x5 in desperation till i started to know d car......so id say go ahead...take d plunge

Dunno that I can put BMW and "dependable" in the same sentence...at least, not in a positive sentence.

Every one I've owned thus far has required a fair bit of care to keep running...and if one of the one's you bring home has been neglected, I can't fathom how much that bill could be...(think multiples of what you paid for the vehicle).

Choose wisely. All records, one or two owners, and get a reputable independent BMW shop to go over it before you hand over a check...

Just my advice...

I'm hoping the X5 is better than the '02 540 and the '08 335i in terms of reliability and dependability...

If you knwo how to DIY alot of teh maintence then you can save money there also invest in a good Warranty I have one for my 2001 X5 4.4 with 99K look in one of past post about aftermarket warranty, it covers pretty much everything and I have a 0$ deductible. But yeah I was the same way, but buy the car cause you like it and know that you will have problems. this is my second BMW and both have had problems very minor from wear and tear.

I've owned about 15 Bimmers (at least) over the years, the old 1600's and 2002's were great cars very simple, the Bavaria's and 3.0's had thheir overheating and camshaft problems, but the cars have gotten much better over the years..BMW's are "performance" vehicles...they have their problems...but are generally very well made. Proper care is important.
I like the 3.0 engines because that engine has been, basically, the same for eons...the V8's seem to have more "problems", and for me the 6 has plenty of power...so.
If your are looking at older Bimmers, their previous maintenace is important,
service records help, and a good PPI (pre-purchase Inspection) is well worth the $$
