New X5 owner...

First off, wow… I should have done more research on the X5 before making my purchase…

Being a former BMW (‘91 525i) owner I know the BMW product is a quality product, well I thought so. Seeing that I put over 120,000 miles on the 525 for the 5 years I had it (was given the car as a gift, 10 years old with 60k at the time) only problems being water pump and thermostat having to be replaced around 100k and that car was driven hard to say the least.

So, I purchased a 2004 X5 with 59k and thought I was getting a deal. But after reading some of the posts it makes me scared and appears I need to run out and purchase an extended warranty like yesterday.

I really hope the problems people have on here aren’t as widespread as it seems. With all that being said… here is the 5. (the dealer pics)

:xoutpost: I have an 04 3.0 as well with a little more mileage than you. I purchased an extended warranty just for the peace of mind. I can't say the car will never break down or have problems but there seems to be less chance of that on postlifted I6's. You'll find a lot of the people here are very helpful in case you have any questions.

Don't worry so much. This forum is usually frequented by people who have problems with their X, more than people who don't. So it seems like there are alot of X5 problems, but the majority of X5 owners most likely experience very few problems. This is an excellent place to get answers to your questions if you do experience any difficulties with your X..
