I think that when you buy a used car you can expect a few deferred maintenance costs. The BMW does cost more to own but it handles/drives better.

If you want a less sophisticated low cost car buy a new Honda Fit.

Buying an older car is not for everyone. If you know more about car repair (so you don't get ripped or can DIY), or you have alternate cars to drive (so you aren't pressed to get a dealer repair immediately), it's easier to live with.

well putting x5 and pilot next to each other

pilot is way more reliable( and yes considering some have had tranny issues)

we can make a list of issues of these 2 suv and im 100% sure the x5 is gonna have double then the pilot... seriously..

plus.. just check resale value on honda against the x5..- that should say lot ..

x5s have weak point all over(just remember x5s are double in price when new against the pilot)

door handles
window regulators
auto trans
leaky air suspensions
motor oil leaks
and much more

I love my '01 4.4! It was well taken care of by the previous owner, but I still have had to put some money into it since I bought it. I went from a honda civic to this beast--and let me state the obvious, "NO COMPARISON". I feel much safer in the X, it drives amazingly, looks like a beauty, is fast...this list goes on. And yes I have put more money into my X in 5 months than I did in 2 years of having the civic that was much older and had 100k more miles than my X.

Why do people own 8 year old cars (especially BMWs), can't work on them themselves, can't afford to maintain them, whine about repair costs and ultimately bashes the car as if another brand does NOT ever break?

We've heard of nothing but nightmares with MDX's (Pilot twin)

Their gearboxes suck worse than a Benz. 52K and its kaput.

My brother bought a brand new MDX in 06 and though they haven't had trouble with it, I thought it was quite nice inside until I got my 03 4.6L IS. His vehicle was guttless for power while mine is a monster. His interior looks cheap in comparison and I think overall though his vehicle is newer, I'd still take my ride anyday over his. He paid $65,000 for his, I just bought mine and paid $33,000. The level of quality that BMW holds in their vehicle is leaps and bounds over Honda or Acura and it shows.
