Intake Air Adjuster

I just had to replace the Intake Air Adjuster on my 2002 X5 3.01. with 94,000 miles. I did it at an independent garage. Part was a little over $200. Anyone else ever have to change this, and is there a recall involved on this part?
Thanks

No recall on this part. I had an air leak around the unit where it attaches to the manifold. The gasket is integal to the unit and is kind of marginal...so I dont want to get a new unit just for the gasket. So i went to the auto parts store and got some gasket material and cut my own gasket for $3. Air leak is gone and all is well now. What problem were you having anyway? Maybe you just had an air leak?!

Don't know about a recall, but the part was updated in 4/2004 to what you installed (which is the newest available).

Where is the DISA valve?

OK, I am a moron. I have looked at every post I could find, but I still cannot see where the DISA (Intake Air Adjuster) valve.
Does anyone happen to have a picture of this? I have a 2002 4.4i (E53, but y'all knew that).

Hope I didn't miss an obvious post here.

By the way, I love this site, the expertise and sharing of information is amazing.

Idle control valve can just seize up apparently. It's under the plenum length adjuster valve held in by two torx bolts and a rubber boot. The engine wiring harness bolts to it's mounting bracket at one point. It is not really hard to pull once you have the intake stuff off, all the way down to but not including the throttlebody. It is about a 150 part, plus or minus.

OK, thanks, apparently I misunderstood. Can this part also cause the high pitched whistling sound? Mine is heard at idle, and while driving. I dont hear it right after starting it, when the engine is cool. once it gets warmed up, then it can be heard.
