Arrow Results from Seafoaming my X5!

10,000 mile update: still running well, no issues.

I Seafoamed my cars this afternoon for the first time ever. The 2002 Corvette with 53k miles put on a mild smoke show; nothing to write the forum about, but the 2001 X5 3.0i with 83k miles...wow! It was like those burnouts that are so smokey you can't see the car. Kids were looking over fences, dogs were barking, I am surprised that the FD was not called.

After the smoke show calmed down a bit (about three minutes), I took the car for a spin to work the rest out.

Results after treatment: my idle went from okay, to very smooth and the idle RPM seemed to drop a little.

Has anyone else here tried it on their X?

It is a product that you introduce to the induction system via a vac line that decarbonizes and cleans out the intake, valves and combustion chamber.

Nice. Can't wait to see what kinds of problems you'll have down the road. Why didn't you just do a fuel treatment cleaning using the stuff BMW uses? There is an SIB documenting the whole thing.

Cat converter and O2 sensors may not like it too much

No need for you to wait and see what happens, because he's not going to have any problems down the road.. This is also known as a carbon clean.. I've done it myself...

I did it on the '96 Lexus ES I had a few years ago. It was purchased used and once I figured out how it'd work, it seemed like a decent idea. I did it a couple times on that car.

Not recommended on modern BMWs. Just use good quality petrol and let drive it hard once in awhile.

Seafoam has been quite popular in all sorts of circles for some time. I have used it in the past with decent results and never had any long term issues. Seems to work great on "used" cars when you don't fully know previous care and maintenance.

I am just about to 85K miles and this thread has prompted me to add that to the list of things to do.

Besides doing it through the vac system you can use it in the fuel system and in the oil. Most recommend you add to the oil, drive a few hundred miles then do your standard oilchange.

Apparently it's also a great salad dressing, personal lubricant, meat tenderizer, paint stripper, and wood deck weather seal, etc.
