I hope you got the dealer to replace the head gasket and CV boot re inspection report. As you stated they can become major problems. You can't go wrong using 'Search' - top right, 2nd line. Simply type in 'Pixels' and you have many pages of like situations. It will answer pretty much any query. Yeah, pics are good, post asap. We all need to see the ride, otherwise it dosen't exist

About the dead pixels in the cluster, I suggest you talk with your dealer first. Here the service adviser told me that if anything went wrong with my instrument cluster, that he will more than likely be able to have it fixed even if the car was out of warranty.
And yeah, going from the corola to a 4.4 should be at least as good as sex.
