Anyone with ebay GT1 experience?
What I want to know, from people who actually have first hand experience, is what have you experienced. Does it actually program modules (albeit slow), problems in use because of hardware, software ease of use or not, laptop used and whether you bought it with the laptop of just the HDD/images, Windows based or not, etc. I realize the actual BMW GT1s may or may not be available since its already been unsupported since 2008, I think. Also, my main concern for support is for the E53. Don't care about updates. I would like the real thing but I'm not sure if you could even find it much less buy one for $650. So, if you actually have experience with one of these ebay GT1s please post. I don't even know if discussion of this is allowed. I'd just make sure you get software v44 if you want to program with it... anything newer and it won't program.

For the E53 platform you can use the regular yellow head for programming, don't need the OPPS head. And you could do all your diagnosing and programming with V44, so you wouldn't need SSS v28. Which is probably for the better as the SSS (software service station) would likely need its own computer as well and can be a pain. I prefer the GT1 myself for the E53, it's just the newer cars that need the SSS.

Yeah, thats probably why they're supplying it on 2 HDD. You have to swap HDD when you want to use DIS vs SSS, I think.
I was just curious what exact interface I need for using the SSS, just in case I ever wanna try that way - on the X or newer BMWs. I think the optical interface (OPPS) is supposed to be much faster but not sure if that actually would work on the X or its only for the newer BMW models. I assume its only for the newer BMWs. |

It may be a bit faster of an interface, but some vehicles need to use the yellow head and some need the OPPS head. The E53 happens to need the yellow one. The OPPS head has the fiber optic interface for programming the MOST bus on newer vehicles with the fiber optic audio bus system. The OPPS head is pretty much useless for the E53.
