Unfortunately no - this is a result of the iPhone reacting to the DICE, not the DICE itself.

Thanks for the clarification on the iPhone/DICE interface Tom.

So just to be clear... With the DICE kit I can control music playback on the device itself using an iPod but not with an iPhone? Or is ALL control of the device relegated to the head unit / steering wheel regardless of which device I'm using?

Sorry if I'm being thick headed about this... just trying to determine the limitations of the iPod/iPhone interface before buying and installing one.

Edit: Or does the iPod you plug into the car serve as a glorified (allbeit huge capacity) CD Changer?

You can - but at a cost. There are 2 modes you can choose from on the DICE modules:

The SILVERLINE mode will allow for all control via the radio/steering wheel contreols, this will allow for directory browsing and text display. The iPod is locked in this mode.

Simple UI mode allows Clickwheel operation, but disables all DICE-specific features when doing so, including text display.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

I just had the dealer install the Aux adaptor, it's in the glove box. Don't know what the guys at BMW were thinking with that. But now have a mini-mini cord threaded out to the console. Works fine. My iPhone is much more intuitive than the controls on my X5, so thought it would be safer to keep most of my music coming from my phone. Install and parts cost $149.00. The dealer actually advised me not to have the full on iPhone/USB install. Wasn't worth the cost. Go figure.

I was debating between the OEM Aux Input versus the Intravee-II. The Aux Input appealed to me because iPhone/iPod/iTouches aren't the only digital music players out there.

I consider myself a DIY'er for most stuff, but when it involves a drill and some screws into my X5 I have some apprehension. So, I called the dealer to find out the price and they wanted a $150 for the install and the car for 3 hours!

So I just said screw it and bought the Intravee-II, hopefully it will be here this week sometime so I can install it and enjoy my new toy!

iPhone works fine with the DICE. You can't control the music from the phone but you can from the head or steering wheel.

it works fine with the intravee as well. it sounds like he is using an iPod for his music and the iPhone for his bluetooth phone. In theory, you could use the iPhone for both, but you wouldn't be able to use snap-in adaptor since the iPhone would have to be plugged into the ipod interface.

bought the aux adapter for ~$60, and installed less than an hour. Put the connector to the ashtray, and I hide a 3' cord in there when not in use. I use my iphone with it, and works perfectly.

I put a rubber like cover on my iphone, so I can leave it on top of the cup holder tray cover without sliding around. Great thing is that I can listen to the ipod function and pandora radio.

works seemless with bluetooth. iphone quiets down, and the ringer goes through the stereo (as bluetooth, not aux sound). music pauses when I pick up. When I hang up, music fades back in.

Perfect.
